Cognac is a cosy, small city with approximately 20000 inhabitants, most of them somehow connected to the production of Cognac. The centre itself is rather small and getting around is easy. The main street, reserved for pedestrians, takes you through the old part of the city and down to the river Charente.

The river can be explored by canoe, kayak or riverboats, alternatively on foot or by bicycle. Musee des arts du cognac at Place de la Salle Verte is the perfect venue for learning about the history of the liquor, the city and the area. A permanent 1600 square meter exhibition, with extensive use of audio-visual tools, will give you in depth knowledge of grape production, oenology, distillation, production of oak barrels, trade history, packaging and design.
